This project featured a new 29,583SF Aircraft Maintenance Unit facility that had a 6,500SF SAPF (Special Access Program Facility) area with an independent electrical system and clean fiber optics that were required.
The location of this project was designated between 4 existing buildings/hangers which presented multiple challenges. Access to the site was very tight and took a lot of coordination with the government to make it a smooth process.
Site-work included new 15KVA electrical feeder, new communication duct bank that ran a quarter mile, earthwork, over-excavation of unusual soil conditions, sidewalks, off-site storm drainage, storm drain lines, wet utilities, landscaping, asphalt paving and grounding ring.
The project featured (8) 130’ Musco high Mast light poles that light up a 2,800 ft x 2,800 ft parking area for F35A fighter jets. We also installed (52) 5kV flush mounted taxi edge lights around the parking area that tied into the existing airfield lighting system.
The existing 15kV and TeleData duct banks were re-routed around the new parking Area. We installed a new electrical and communications duct bank containing (4) 4” electrical conduits and (6) 4” TeleData conduits, 7 new electrical vaults & 14 new TeleData vaults covering a total distance of one mile. The new infrastructure tied into the 15kV base utility and the new fiber optic back bone was spliced into the existing Airforce system.
This design/build project featured the demolition and removal of outdated 12.47kV site switchgear, two 1400kW backup generators and one 2MVA transformer. GTI was also tasked with the removal of one 480V switchboard for the Admin/Control Building and the removal of all equipment and gear associated with the backup generators. In place of all the old electrical equipment, GTI installed a new 3MW generator, new 12.47kV rated switchgear and new 480V switchboard and manual transfer switch for a portable generator.
We are doing a new 15kV and TeleData Infrastructure to reroute of existing utilities around the first stage of a multi billion dollar expansion on the East side of Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV. The project includes adding seven 130ft Musco high-mast light poles and 42 5kV taxiway lighting system.
The 15kV and TeleData systems are both tying into existing pad mounted switches and existing manholes. The new reroutes are 2,300 feet each with 4 4in and 5in conduits in each ductbank as well as 7 manholes in each run. The scope of work includes pulling 15kV 250mcm cable with new termination on each end, as well as pulling all new 100pr CU and 48 str. fiber optics.
The seven 130ft Musco high-mast poles will run the borders of 2,200ft by 2,300ft.
The 42 5kV taxiway lights are tying into Nellis AFB existing system.
Site: 12470 volt medium voltage duct bank. We will install 5000ft of concrete encased duct bank. We will install 2000ft of medium voltage cable, terminate and test cable. We will install (1) S&C PME 11 switch, (1) 750 kva medium voltage 12470 volt transformer.
We will install 20000ft of concrete ductbank 72 pair fiber and 200 pair copper communication system.
We installed (25) light poles, pole bases and electrical underground raceway.
AMU
We installed electrical to a 29000 sf building. We achieved a LEED silver on this project. We installed LED lights throughout the building, lighting controls and convenience power.
Hanger
We installed electrical in a 17000 sf hanger. We also installed (4) F-35 270VDC converters. We also installed counter weight pits for aircraft cooling units and airplane electrical attachments.
We also will install all security and fire alarm raceway systems.
We will also design and install all communication systems.
GTI is also a UL lightning Protection contractor. We will design and install a complete lightning protection system.
